“112″ - saving phone number for drivers of Europe

Today 9 of the 27 EU countries are ready to join the eCall system which provides emergency call services anywhere in the continent and which in three years will be installed in all new cars produced in Europe..

According to experts’ estimates, eCall system will save up to 2,500 lives and besides it’s an overall reduction of 26 billion euro that are spent on cleaning up the consequences of raod accidents in the EU.

AS a basis of such a system will be use of the pan-European telephone number for receiving emergency calls - “112″. It is suposed that if the victim of an accident the is not be able to turn on a warning device, it will work automatically. When a car accident happens anywhere in the EU a signal will go to a reception center console. Theree will always be a person on duty who in a matter of minutes will be able to locate the place of an accident and send there the nearest police patrol, call ambulance and firemen.

Germany and Austria joined to a single emergency call just yesterday.

So far such countries like Greece, Italy, Latvia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway and Iceland have alredy supported the establishment of this system.
